Haute Couture 2014: Valentino

On Wednesday, desingers, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, reached back farther than any of the decades we have known in our lifetimes. Inspired by the pre-Raphaelite era, the Valentino Fall Couture show created modern day goddesses.

The Fall 2014 Valentino collection gathered it’s beauty from a classic and relgious vibe. The collection’s designers claimed they “looked to the past to create something new” when inventing the collection. Following this style, the peices were styled after togas, tunics, nymphs, warriors, and roman gowns — all with a modern flare. Even the venue — set on a wooden runway under arches of greenery, showed the value placed on nature and beauty.

The fabrics used varied from sheer, almost see-through tulle, to pieces of a tapestry that dates back to the 17th-century. The materials were draped loosely, allowed to flow freely. However, many outfits had a thick leather strap that wrapped and crossed around the waist for a more suggestive shape and style.

Every outfit was paried with black gladiator sandals that wrapped thinnly all the way up to the model’s knees. The sandals added a touch of rawness to each look. Meanwhile, hair was parted in the middle and pulled back into soft curls down their backs adding to the romantic feel.

Not all the attention was on the runway, however. In the front row of the audience sat Valentino and Giancarlo Giammmetti, and between them Ms.Kim Kardashian.
