Haute Couture 2014: Christian Dior

This Monday, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, the Fall 2014 Christian Dior Couture Collection hit the runway. Belgian designer, Raf Simons, incorporated various different themes into his looks for the show, while also utilizing the physical space of the venue. The runway was all white and circular, giving a very futuristic feel to the garden behind the Musee Rodin. Yet the pieces on the runway seemed to come from various places in the past. This created an interesting intersection of past, present, and future.

The collection included long, heavy, and classically-cut coats, loose, patterned, almost 20’s drop-waist dresses, military-style jumpsuits and dresses, detailed with zippers, embroidery, and belts. The collection also included shockingly modern and urban attire — pieces included black trousers and black turtleneck tops under simple frock coats and vests.

However, the real stand out of the show were the beautiful wafting Marie Antoinette-inspired gowns. All in shades of white, with delicate and traditional embroidery in silvers and pastels, these gowns were full, flowing and light — fit for royalty.
