Paris Fashion Week Spring 2015: Day 1

The anticipated Paris Fashion Week has finally begun! Fashion royalty has gathered in the City of Lights to witness what will prevail in Spring 2015 trends.

French designer, Anthony Vaccarello, was one of the biggest labels of the day and did a fabulous job at showing off his name as a new designer. With his name printed on many of his designs, all of his looks including the business inspired outfits, had a sexy and provocative twist.

Many different styles were combined into this show, including a Swinging Sixties vibe and an emphasis on graphic prints. The introduction of a sexy U-shaped neckline stunned viewers, being alluring yet maintaining classiness.

Also unique was Simon Porte Jacquemus‘ spring collection, inspired by a beach getaway. Guests sat around an array of umbrellas, tubes and floaties as the models joyously walked the runway with beachy wet-styled hair. Jacquemus’ designs were just as cheerful as the girls looked. Styles included a yellow and white striped A-Line dress and a white pinafore, setting a 60’s style to spring beach looks. More fashion-forward pieces included a blue and white striped mini skirt and matching crop top with an extended curve on one side, for the more daring ladies.

Known for his daring and art-inspired concepts, Japanese designer Kunihiko Morinaga made his Paris debut to the international eye by literally cooking imprints into his designs, live on the runway.  Models in white silhouettes, lace garments and plain black dresses walked down the runway into a “grilling area” where they stopped to be flashed by strong beaming lights. As they continued walking, the audience saw graphic patterns imprinted on the garments. Talk about bold.

Devastee’s talented designers, Ophelie Klere and Francois Alary, used cool and bizarre prints as the highlight of their show. Teapots, smiley faces, huge polka dots and rain clouds against a black and white checkered runway worked incredibly well. The Alice In Wonderland-esque designs featured loose silhouettes and barren legs in all 25 looks, giving the busier designs a feminine and relaxed vibe.

PFW Day 1 shows were a little more on the edgier and diverse side, featuring retro-inspired, fashion forward and futuristic elements compared to other shows we saw in New York and Milan. With a lot of new designers hitting the scene, Paris is the perfect city for foreign designers, especially from Asia, to make an international debut as it is more fashionably versatile and daring than other cities. As New York is more American and Milan is very fashionably classic, Paris is the perfect spot. Stay tuned for more Paris Fashion Week reviews!
