Fashion week spring 2015 has made its way to Milan and we couldn’t be happier! Day one brought the perfect balance of unconventional risks and timeless simplicity. The two shows that stood out most to us today each represent one of these ideals: Stella Jean as unconventional and Francesco Scognamiglio as classic. Stella Jean presented the type of line that assualted the senses- in a good way of course! For the home-viewer unable to travel to Milan, Stella Jean managed to transport you there in just 30 looks, which is one of the fundamental aspirations of any good designer. Francesco Scognamiglio, contrarily, presented a very delicate and seemingly simplistic line that paired classic silhouettes and fabrics with daring sheers and embellishments.
While sheers and embellishments definitely were embraced in Milan just as in New York and London, the trend that Milan especially mastered was crop-tops! Crop-tops came in so many variations- bralettes, bodycon, boxy, cropped vests- and each was perfect in its own right. The only main trend that Milan seemed unintersted in was Metallics (apart from Fausto Puglisi who’s gold metallic look was so flawless it would have been nearly impossible to compete with). In place of metallics, MFW day one presented more polka-dots than we’ve seen thus far and they’ve got us begging for more. Here’s to hoping!
Here are some of the day’s most memorable looks.
