How to: head-to-toe prints!

In the past, head-to-toe prints have been marginalized as a trend only for fashion bloggers. Recently, though, bold prints have overtaken practically every runway and are working their way down to street fashion and most, if not all, of the best and trendiest stores. If you’re tempted to try this trend, make sure to follow these tips and take a look at these perfectly executed outfits for inspiration!

The simplest way to pull off this trend is to do a one-piece outfit with a daring print, but keep accessories monochromatic and subtle. While there’s no way to make this trend boring, you can amp up the boldness of your outfit with a plunging neckline or cutouts like some of the bloggers below.

To add some dimension you can try pairing two of the same/similar prints with a third subtle piece, like a solid color coat, shirt, or bag. This can add an element of fun to an otherwise conservative outfit, as shown through the printed suits.  This can also be used as a more adaptable alternative to a printed dress as shown through the crop tops and skirts.

The boldest way to approach this trend is to pair two different prints. This approach requires the most direction and, in our opinion, yields the greatest reward! The most important aspect of this is that there has to be some sort of consistency- but how you choose to incorporate that is up to you. As shown below, some of the best ways to do this are through color or fabric, but other options are through the theme (i.e. nature) or cut (i.e. asymmetrical).

  • If you choose to use color as your pairing point, you can use any color that appears in both pieces, even if it is only the background color! This is easily done with white or black because the majority of prints feature one of these either as background or trim.
  • The best way to use fabric as your pairing point is to pair two silk pieces so that the fabric will add a delicate aspect to this bold trend.
