Haute Couture 2014: Alexis Mabille

Alexis Mabille created a flawlessly androgynous haute couture line this year, taking what is traditionally masculine and combining it with a satin corset or a lace cape until the line between gender roles is perfectly blurred. The collection is reminiscent of the Victorian era with its focus on jewel tones, lace, and full skirts, but has been modified through the cuts and styles of each piece for modern day wear. Arguably the most impressive detail about this line is that it maintained a cohesive look despite the fact that almost no two fabrics were the same; Mabille transitioned between velvet, lace, tulle and fur without a hitch.
