2014 MTV Video Music Awards Recap

The VMAS this year sparked much less controversy than last. With a tribute to Robin Williams, a moment of silence for Mike Brown, and Cyrus trading in her foam finger for an attempt to help the homeless, the celebrities seemed to take this opportunity to build solidarity in the face of recent tragedy. Don’t worry, that’s not to say there were no controversial moments, though. Most noteworthy were Nicki Minaj’s on-stage wardrobe malfunction, Katie Perry and Riff Raff’s tribute to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s head-to-toe denim outfits worn in 2001, and Amber Rose’s barely-there dress (if you can call it that) which was practically identical to the one worn by Rose McGowan in ’98.

But the most memorable moment of the award show goes to none other than Beyonce, who wasn’t able to hold back her tears when she was presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award by Jay Z and Blue Ivy as the crowd chanted her name. Check out some of the most memorable looks of the VMAs below!
