New York Fashion Week Spring 2015: Day 5

Lela Rose began Day 5 of New York Fashion Week black and white. The first few numbers to hit the runway struck strictly to a black and white theme, and as the show continued subtle blues, yellows, reds, and even golds were infused in. Rose’s spring/summer 2015 collection was feminine and beautiful, staying classic and clean with just enough of a girly touch. A new item in her collection that caught our attention was the kimono style she used on a few pieces, that strayed away from her typical cut. Rose definitely did not disappoint any adoring women this season, who hope to don of her lovely pieces.

What says springtime more than a flower? Carolina Herrera draws on this springtime cliche as the theme for her collection this season. One, or many, the pieces included flowers as their embellishments. The dresses and gowns followed a full structured shape, that was both tradition and elegant. The color palate was even said “spring”, while sticking to creams, soft and bright pinks, and soft yellows, with some deep reds and purples mixed in as well.

Alice + Olivia collection made us all fall in love with spring again. It was so simple, sweet, soft, feminine, innocent, and absolutely beautiful. With all the colors and patterns of springtime, one can’t help but smile. Outfits included classy pure white pants suits, flowing floral gowns, full patterns skirts, and embroidered crop tops. If classic, feminine, spring fashion could be summed up in two words, it could be Alice and Olivia.

White. Black. Red. Zac Posen didn’t need anything else to make his Spring/Summer collection memorable. The entire show was clean. Perfectly clean-cut and classic, with just an underlying touch of the sexy feeling he aimed for. The simplicity of the show kept it glamorous in it’s own way.

Donna Karan New York is a name known all over the fashion world for being bold and different. And this season DKNY was not afraid to keep up that reputation. The collection included some of the boldest, brightest, and most unique patterns and pairings the runway has seen this fashion week. The show opened with a salmon and and navy geometric patterned sweater, paired with a matching striped skirt, matching sneakers, and a flared denim overlay skirt. The whole show continued this bold, interesting, mis-matched patterns, with a combination of fabrics and colors. DKNY wanted to celebrate the “melting pot” and the multiculturalism and diversity and was able to do this through her collection this season.

Karen Walker kept it classy. Period. The spring/summer 2015 collection was filled with tailored traditionally patterned pant suits, paired with sleeveless tops or jackets. The models also often donned scarves and hats or sunglasses. Although the show was in general very conservative, small touches of colors and accessories kept it modern and fashionable.

Tommy HilfigerĀ takes a turn — for the better? Hilfiger has been been notoriously known for it’s increasingly preppy style, but this spring they transform little more rock n’ rock. The venue itself was set up to echo the infamous Beatles, with lush green grass and scattered colored flowers. Georgia May Jagger herself kicked off the show, proving the musical tribute behind the show. The collection itself consisted of striped suits, leather hats, suede vests, long scarfs, glittering onesies, matching band jackets, oversized knit sweaters, tee-shirt dresses, and fur jackets. It has already been critiqued for bordering on “costumes”, but this collection definitely hit the spot when it came to an all-american throw-back musical tribute.
