LFW Top Five Trends: Revealed

It’s no surprise that people were buzzing about London Fashion Week this past week given all its excitement and trends. From Alexander McQueen’s dreamy and seductive collection to Burberry’s iconic collection, we’ve rounded up the top five trends spotted at London Fashion Week!

1. Sheer And Sexy

What better way to show a bit of skin and still remain classy? Sheer lace. This trend was prominent during this LFW seeing that it remains a classic and sexy look.

Designer Emilio De La Morena is known for creating meticulously sexy cocktail looks with his many techniques. In his Autumn/Winter 2016 Collection, Morena created a stunning look with delicate lace fabrics and masks that depicted sexy lingerie feel for his audience.

 

During this season’s collection, designer Alexander McQueen spawned upon romance and dream. Her night-like collection demonstrated her exquisite tailoring of the embroidered butterflies and the craftsmanship of the delicate sheered lace.

 

Sheer lace is a style that ruled the runway this season because it manages to be provocative, yet sophisticated—something us fashion go-ers appeal to.

 

 

2. Mad For Plaid

Plaid never gets old. The crisp pattern that signifies autumn is spotted throughout numerous runways this season. By adding a plaid coat to your look, you are just screaming “Fall”.

Topshop utilized their show to display this trend on coats and trousers.

 

One of the most memorable shows during this season of LFW, was definitely Burberry. And the best news was that the new collection will be on sale in store starting in June. The models were strutting in cashmere overcoats, with patterned tights and chunky, embellished booties.

 

 

3. Head-to-toe Velvet

Velvet pieces always add great effect. It was presented almost everywhere this season and was shown in various colors. Velvet is a lavishing and decadent fabric that can turn an ordinary look into something rich and grand. Hence, many of the designers this season decided to utilize this material on their collections.

4. No Symmetry. No Structure.

We all love skirts and dresses, and we’re definitely used to playing it safe with the perfect cuts and symmetry. But a trend that appeared to be popular during LFW this Autumn/Winter, was the asymmetric hemlines. The asymmetric hemline trend gives you the chance to get away from the boring structured pieces to something more notable and unique.

A gorgeous series of sequins and cut-outs, Julien Macdonald showcased his exciting debut during London Fashion Week this year. Each dress prepared for the catwalk appeared to be something worn on the red carpet or at an extravagant cocktail party. “Celebrate your body,” he says, encouraging women to remain confident in outfits more on the risqué side. His asymmetric hemline dresses were definitely designed prestigiously!

 

 

5. Flaring It.

Flared pants and trousers? Comfortable and definitely appealing to look at. Flared trousers were also another trend this year during LFW.

Designer Yasuko Furuta expanded her collection this season with her creative detailing and inspiration to put together different layers such as fur accessories, trench coats, and blouses. Her collection, Toga, is known for “hidden complexity and nuanced layers”. She definitely stuck to her true form. Her wide-leg trousers were paired with asymmetric tops and blouses. They were complemented well with other pieces and created a unique overall appearance.

 

Flared pants were huge in the ‘70s, and Roberto Cavalli’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection proves its continuous commitment to remain “early 1970s rock chick”. With the help of creative director, Dundas managed to help create a collection that screamed out the ‘70s. The collection involved pieces such as velvet, lace, caviar beading, fur, and numerous embroidery pieces.
