Iris Apfel Collabs with Macy’s INC

We all know and love Iris Apfel, 94 year-old fashion influencer and style icon. Iris is teaming up with Macy’s INC to create her line of clothing that will launch in the beginning of September this year. The line, Iris Meets INC will be sold in 300 Macys stores and even online.

Senior Vice President of Macy’s Merchandising Group, Nancy Slavin said, “Iris is a perfect partner for INC. Not only does her style resonate with multiple generations of INC shoppers, but there isn’t a more iconic personality to show off the new “mod” style for fall.”

Macy’s has been popular amongst the fashion world for generations, so it was not surprise when we found out their new way of attracting younger customers—by collaborating with Iris Apfel. “I was called by Macy’s. They said they were looking for someone. They dragged me over and –voila—here I am,” Apfel said during her shoot for Macy’s. Iris Meets INC will feature 40 “must-have” pieces that will get you ready for the fall mod trend. The collection will focus on A-line skirts, flare leg pants, and statement jackets—all of Apfel’s signature style. Prices will range from $49.50 to $199.50. The campaign for the brand will begin in early August.

Adding as an anchor to the campaign, INC will also launch a limited edition of Iris-themed emojis. Yes, Iris Apfel emojis. “Everyone [who interviews me] asks about the emojis; and I didn’t even know what an emoji was. For me it’s rather silly, but it’s generational, so if it makes the kids happy, then…” she said, “It’s not the most awful thing.”

Iris Apfel

Apfel acted more of a curator rather than a designer for this new collection. However, when it came down to the jewelry, she took matters into her own hands. “I didn’t like the jewelry [they’d designed] at all and I made suggestions. I was much more involved in the design of the jewelry than with anything else,” Iris said.

Never expecting to have her own clothing collection or even being apart of fashion, Apfel fell into and ended up loving it and we’re not complaining. Stay tuned for more information on the collection heading to stores this Fall!
