The Five Trends Spotted at Milan Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week, check! London Fashion Week, check! And now, buongiorno from Milan Fashion Week! We saw nothing but creative minimalistic pieces compiled into countless runway looks. But now, Milan is something we cannot call simple or minimalistic at the very least. From Versace’s ice-blue fur coat to the Chinese style and embroidery at Fendi, there was nothing left for the imagination. Here are the five trends we spotted at Milan Fashion Week.

  1. Imperial Material

It appears this season in Milan, Chinese style and culture truly referenced some of the designers’ collections. Designer Alberta Ferretti is known for her designs in lace, tulle, and embroideries—and she definitely stuck by her reputation this season. Her collection included numerous silky sheath night shirts and pj’s. Runway or a pajama party? Ferretti made it seem like both and the common patterns she went for this season were delicate, airbrushed flowers on silky pajamas which signifies similar designs in Chinese culture.

The Antonio Marras Autumn/Winter Collection, on the other hand decided not to go light weight and kept its collection full of “heaped abundance”. One look was accessorized with a drooping headpiece and a flashy Chinese style carpet-blanket. Marras explained, “From madness you come to situations that are much more interesting than the normality of life.” And that was exactly the performance this particular gave us—no boundaries come about freedom of expression.

  1. Gaudy and Furry

Fall is definitely a season to keep warm, right? We all know fur is an option for us to keep warm and maintain style and chicness. But we’re so used to the neutral fur coats we see walking the runways. Well not this season at Milan. Hyper-colored faux and real fur were very common this season among the designers.

Versace’s Autumn/Winter Collection 2016 came back sexier than ever and is “embracing models of a range of shapes and ages”. Models like Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Karlie Kloss got to strut down the runway wearing tight-fitting cropped flares, mini skirts, and fur. Designer Donatella went with colors like ice-blue, coral, and lime yellow. Her designs had little symmetry and appeared limitless. “It’s about a woman’s power—for every kind of woman!” says the designer. And that’s how the models portrayed each look to be—powerful for all woman.

  1. Frilly and Fun

Ruffles and frills can be difficult to wear and pair, but it definitely helps grab attention.

Fendi’s collection was filled with thigh-high boots and frills around tops and ruffled blouses and dresses. This collection was designed whimsically and contemporary and we can’t wait to get our hands on all the pieces.

  1. Yellow Invasion

The most common color this season in Milan? Yellow. The Autumn/Winter Collection 2016 color will absolutely give you the bittersweet feeling of summer. Think sun-kissed and laying on the beach under the bright yellow sun. This color was utilized by some of our favorite designers during this past week.

Designer Achille Maramotti of Max Mara brilliantly came up with a collection of “killer coats and modern suits”. His collection for this season depicted feminism and his stance. The attire was arrayed from neutral beige colors to a few bright shades of yellow.

Emilio Pucci’s collection emerged of shades of yellow as well. He utilized his colors and designs in zip-neck velvet pullovers, jumpsuits, sweaters, and shearling coats.

  1. Color Palette

Milan Fashion Week lacked anything but color. From a huge color range to be inspired by, the designers had no barriers and chose from what seems to be a color palette.

“Everything is symbolic. It is like a collage of what is happy or painful, of whether you are feeling beautiful or horrible . . . ” said designed Miuccia Prada as she described the inspiration behind her newest collection. She used various color schemes to depict different symbolisms—darker colors that portrayed solemn and sadness, with hints of colors here and there to show light and happiness.
