Fashion Week Alphabet: The A-Z’s of S/S 2015

Here it is, from A-Z, covering the trends of all things Spring/Summer 2015. From key designers to must-have trends and the latest beauty secrets, the Fashion Week Alphabet will get you in the know for what’s in for the upcoming season!

A- Art Explosion: From blown out graphic prints, to classical modern art, many designers incorporated various forms of art in their collections.  Robert Cavalli, Meadham Kirchhoff, and Chanel all used these elements in their designs, making the Spring/Summer 2015 runways a celebration of art.

B- Braids: Braids were seen on many of the spring 2015 runways this season. Braids have been in for the past few seasons, but for Spring 2015, the emphasis is focused on brushing up the classics.  Whether it be a a classic fishtail at Tome (pictured below) or a punk rock triple braid at Marissa, we will be seeing many new takes on our favorite braided styles!TRESemme at Marissa Webb - Backstage/Front Row - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2015

C- Culottes: These wide-leg cropped pants provide both a sense of chicness and comfort. The airy style was featured in collections by Max Mara, Tom Ford, and Thornton Bregazzi.  

D- Denim: Not only was denim a popular look during fashion week, but luxe denim seemed to be a designer favorite. Dolce & Gabbana dressed up their denim by incorporating dazzling embellishments into their designs. 

E- Eye Focus: Drop the lipstick ladies! Eye makeup is the main beauty focus for women in this season.  Innovative eyeshadow, liner, and lashes have takes the runways by storm. Honor sported dramatic blue winged eyeshadow and Peter Som used bright red-orange liner accents (pictured below).

F- Flats: The London runways sported Spring 2015 with style and ease.  With designers from Temperley London to Lucas Nascimento, flats are the now the trendiest form of comfort.

G- Gingham: This checkered style was found throughout many designer’s collections. Oscar de la Renta casually emphasized the black and white checks in his design (pictured below).

H- High Necklines: High necklines channel both 18th century court attire and the late 60’s/early 70’s. This exquisite trend will add an elegant sense to any look. Dior incorporated this skin-covering trend in many of the collection’s designs. 

I- Indie Fringe: Seen on everything from pants to dresses to purses, this boho look has been spotted all over this seasons runways.  Lazaro Hernandez used unravelling strands, whereas Alberta Ferretti paired the look with sheer fabrics and floral appliqués. 

J- Jumpsuits: With inspiration from the industry world, designers such as Dior, Pucci, and Ralph Lauren implemented jumpsuits in their collections.  The designers dressed up these utilitarian pieces by adding statement accessories and colorful prints.

K- Kimono: Martial arts were a huge inspiration for Marni and Gucci this season. These designers enahnced looks with long silhouettes tied at the waist, creating a kimono feel.

L- Lace: This elegant pattern was used in every color from traditional white to pastel hues to timeless black. Elie Saab designed gorgeous gowns with this feminine trend (pictured below).

M- Military: Just like actually military uniforms, these garments are made to be wearable and durable, yet also fashionable. Marc Jacobs, played up the feminine military look by designing dresses and relaxed silhouettes.

N- Nude Nails: The nude manicure has taken over the Spring 2015 runways! This natural nail look was seen at Maria Cornejo, J. Mendel, and Marc by Marc Jacobs in both matte and shiny looks. Instead of going for springtime colors, try going Au Naturale this season.

O- Oscar de la Renta: The late, great designer lit up the Spring/Summer 2015 runway. With a collection that flattered the natural shape of a women and made her feel beautiful, de la Renta’s final mark on the fashion world was nothing less than stunning. With full skirts, pastel hues, florals, and gingham, the Spring/Summer 2015 collection captured the feminine essence of Springtime and was inspired by New York’s Upper East Side. 

P- Pantone: The women’s Spring 2015 Pantone color report emphasized the cooler colors of the spectrum and used bold colors to accent.  The En Plein Air report consisted of colors such as Aquamarine, Toasted Almond, and Marsala. Throughout the runways of fashion week, many designers incorporated colors from the Pantone En Plein Air Spring 2015 Color Trend Report (pictured below).

Q- Quaint Victorian: One of the most elegant and refined trends of 2015, Victorian styles have appeared in many designers collections including Vivienne Westwood Red Label and Marchesa. These exquisitely romantic designs included fine lace, floor-sweeping skirts, heavy embellishments and gathered necklines.

R- Romantic Bohemian: Designers such as Vera Wang, Etro, and Valentino established a  romantic and carefree style in their collections. Flowing silhouettes, beautiful prints and and small details created a charming look. Alberta Ferretti added an elegant flow to his boho chic look and made the dress pop with 3-D florals.

S- Seventies: Subtle 70’s accents have made the Spring/Summer 2015 season a little more groovy. With everything from fringes to flares, the 70’s have sure made a comeback! Saint Laurent’s blast from the past includes key pieces of the decade such as retro color combos, platform sandals, boat hats, and leather jackets (pictured below).

T- Temperly London: The London designer hit the Spring/Summer 2015 runways with a youthful street-ready collection. With edgy jacket designs inspired by Japanese paintings and flowing bohemian dresses, the Temperly London collection will sure be one to look out for.

U- Umber Suede: Many designers used not only brown suede, but also different shades of suede in their collections. Altuzarra’s Spring 2015 collection debuted chic feminine suede dresses (pictured below).

V- Vest Dresses: This masculine-meets-feminine silhouette was a huge hit on the London runways. Eudon Choi designed a timeless black vest dress in his 2015 Spring/Summer collection.

W- Wet Hair: Just got out of the shower and no time to blow your hair? Well lucky you because the wet hair look is in! Whether it be a sleek pony tail or long slick hair, this “just got out of the shower” look is perfect for Spring 2015. DKNY and Prabal Gurung debuted their collections with this look.

X- Xtra-Terrestrial Metallics: Shiny fabrics made their way down the Milan runways this season, creating an out of this world effect. Versace implemented flashy metallic shades in the Spring/Summer collection (pictured below).

Y- Yellow: Putting a pop on many of the S/S 15  runways this season, yellow has been a feature color in the collections of Trina Turk, Michael Kors, and Tracy Reese. This youthful and sunny color  is perfect for the upcoming blooming seasons!

Z- Zuhair Murad: The elegant designers Spring/Summer 2015 RTW collection was inspired by all things gypsy.  Fresh florals, peasant-style blouses, flower embellishments, printed ponchos, and billowy skirts were key pieces in Murad’s free spirited collection (pictured below).
