“Fashion ain’t no joke for me. . . it’s a way of life . . . creative expression and industry . . . “ said music artist, fashion designer, and entrepreneur Kanye West. And we absolutely agree. Fashion is something we endure and utilize to express our own personalities.

New York Fashion Week events were held throughout the week of February 10-19th this year. Designers like Rebecca Minkoff, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Vivienne Tam, Prabal Gurung, and many more showcased their new Fall/Winter collections of 2016.

We breathe fashion, but how often do we think of the roots of a particular style? Where does a designer and artist get his or her inspiration?

Designer Tadashi Shoji explained how body ornamentation and tattoos play a huge inspiration on his upcoming Fall/Winter collection for this year. You can definitely see the intricate lining of some of pieces that are sought out to be “tattoos”. Each piece fits perfectly on the model because it is true to form and is “[created]… for the body.” Shoji is known for his glamorous designs, but this new-inspired collection is definitely something fresh and innovative.

Well known designer, Tory Burch aspired for a preppy look for her Fall/Winter collection. Think horse races, and equestrian vibes. Her collection includes cable knitted sweaters, trousers, florals, and pops of color. Burch does her own thing and does not abide by the popular street style trend going on right now; instead, she shared a collection that resembles a good 70’s vibe with a modern twist. Models had their hair up in a twisted bun, which shows versatility and retrospect.

Vera Wang is known to be an empowering designer in the fashion industry. Her message? To encourage women’s strength and confidence. She aimed to make her collection look nothing but proportional this season by utilizing only solid colors that brings out precision and elegance. Not to mention, model Kendall Jenner strutted the runway in a soft white blouse layered with black pieces that scream out “effortless and soft”. Although Wang’s color scheme is more on the darker side, it still made a grand statement.

Designer, Tommy Hilfiger, on the other hand, had a different approach on color scheme. He tends to utilize colors that debut “a cruise ship”–red, white, blue, gold, etc. The designer says, “I love anything nautical. I love sailing, yachting. I love the water . . . so we’re doing vintage with a sense of humor and some sexiness.” And that was exactly what he did. Using models like Gigi Hadid, he definitely presented his collection in style.
